By Guest Columnist:  Spencer Griffin
(Run time 58:36)

Guest columnist Spencer Griffin is a linguistics major at American River College and has been featured in the media in stories about college students navigating Asperger’s Syndrome. He is a guitarist, singer and poet and attributes much of his love of language to the influence of his father, the prolific poet and actor S.A. Griffin. He is active in working to raise awareness about Asperger’s. He writes weekly about new music releases on his blog.

SpencerGriffin Spencer writes: “It's hard to believe so many eons have gone by and yet here we are, still trying our best to love and survive. Now, yet another year is dawning before us. It’s another chance for the Earth to make a revolution around the Sun and for the organisms of the planet, we humans included, to get caught up in the madness of it all. As the years go by, communication seems to become all the more important, and what better way to communicate than through music? Music is the cosmic dance that allows us to make sense of the world through mind as well as body, spirit, and other parts our being not included in discussions involving the more physical, concrete parts of our selves. As the Earth takes another 525,600-minute journey around the golden sphere of our galaxy, let us take a moment to thrust ourselves into the throes of thematic thought about the New Year. Happy 2012 and happy listening.”
